Peppol puts an end to lost invoices, double payments and copying everything into Excel. The secure Peppol network sends electronic invoices directly from one software package to another. The invoice needs to be structured in such a way that all software packages can ‘read’ it.
That’s all you need to know, because Billit ensures your invoices are perfectly structured so that they can be sent via Peppol. And the invoices you receive via Peppol are also displayed automatically in your Billit overview.

Every business and organization has a unique digital number: your Peppol ID. In Belgium, it is usually based on your company registration number or VAT number, preceded by a prefix (0208 or 9925). This number lets Peppol know where to send the invoice.
It’s easy to find your customers’ and suppliers’ Peppol ID in Billit. That way, you can see immediately whether they send and receive their invoices in Peppol.
We like to keep things simple. And that includes activating Peppol.
Good news: Peppol is included in your subscription If you create an invoice in Billit, you can send it via Peppol (or another e-invoicing network) at the touch of a button. You will also receive Peppol-invoices from suppliers directly in Billit.
Do you have your own invoicing program, an ERP system or custom software that isn’t connected to Peppol yet? Simply link it to Billit: it will convert your invoices into the correct format and send them securely and correctly via Peppol.
The invoicing rules vary from country to country. But you don’t need to know those rules off by heart. Billit helps you choose the right way to send your invoices.
Does your foreign customer have access to Peppol? If so, you will send your invoice directly via the Peppol network.
Does your foreign customer use a different network? Billit is compatible with many other networks.
What if e-invoicing isn’t yet mandatory for your customer or supplier? Simply send your invoice by email or by post. Old school, but it works.
Your Google subscription. Your restaurant receipt. That parking ticket. And that handwritten invoice. They don’t arrive via Peppol. Foreign suppliers aren’t subject to the Belgian obligation to use Peppol, and not all documents are invoices.

E-invoicing (also called electronic invoicing, digital invoicing or e-billing) is the exchange of invoices between suppliers and buyers in a structured electronic format.
In other words, e-invoices are not simply scanned paper invoices or PDF versions, but XML files structured according to specific rules.
The main advantage of e-invoices is that, with the right software, they can be processed automatically, saving you a lot of time.
Yes, from 1 January 2026, structured electronic invoicing is mandatory for all transactions between Belgian VAT-registered businesses (B2B).
The invoices must be sent and received through the Peppol network. It is only possible to make an exception if both parties agree.

When you create a Billit account and follow the steps, you will be connected to Peppol and will be able to send your first e-invoice right away. Another option is to link your own software to Billit’s Access Point to gain access.

Certainly! Both are possible with Billit. If you send an e-invoice via Peppol, a PDF will be sent with it.
What if your customer isn’t connected to Peppol? You can mail them an invoice in PDF format. Note that from January 2026 onwards, e-invoicing via Peppol is the only legal way of invoicing for all VAT-registered businesses in Belgium.
Many countries use Peppol, but some have their own systems. If you use Billit, that is not a problem: based on your customer’s identifier, the platform will select the right format and the right network to send the invoice. Note that for certain countries, you will need to register first.

No; although Peppol IDs are often based on the VAT number or CBE number in Belgium, a full Peppol ID is longer and consists of a prefix (scheme ID) and the actual identifier (participant ID). The prefix 0208 is followed by the CBE number, the prefix 9925 by the VAT number.
In other countries and internationally, there are many other types of Peppol ID.
